I have been thinking about moving to Tampa for a couple of months. I am 25 years old and would love to live here. I have read some negative posts about the crime, schools, and even cost of living. Coming from New Orleans I can tell you tampa's crime is not nearly as bad ours. We are known as the murder city and quite frankly it is something Iam not too proud of. Schooling is terrible in LA and we are either last or second to last in the nation. Cost of living has gone sky high since Katrina and quite frankly it is not worth it. So I think it is safe to say Tampa is much better place than New Orleans.
With that being said I dont know much about Tampa. Where are the safe neighborhoods? Cause I know i come from New Orleans but I want to be in a safe enviroment cause that is what it is all about. Second since Iam single I want to leave in a apartment. So Iam wondering where some nice complexes for good prices will be at. What are some fun things to do in Tampa for a young adult such as myself. And last how is the sports enviroment in Tampa. Iam willing to try and root for tampa teams except for the Bucs and Devil rays. Sorry Iam a saints and Yanks fan.
Comments please!

Come on down, I know a lot of young gals recently moved here from Virginia with Bank of America job transfers, They rented apts in Brand new Brandon Apts they love it there. Be leary of the old ones in Tampa and Brandon they are not well kept and too many problems. There are plenty of New ones in Brandon. Rent runs about 750-800 for 1 bedroom. Most all have Pools and Gyms on site.

Coming from New Orleans, I think you will like Tampa - it has a little bit of that vibe, but not as much crime (but there is crime here, like all big cities)

I recommend an apartment somewhere in the South Tampa area - this is a beautiful area of younger people with a lot of shopping, restaurants and night life. It is also convenient to Ybor City, our historic Latin district which is like a mini French Quarter.

I would not get an apartment anywhere else in the central core of Tampa, too much crime everywhere in the city, and you might not feel safe.

The larger Tampa Bay area includes St Petersburg, a wonderful coastal city with great beaches and a pretty downtown.

Good luck!

Default Made the move

There are a lot of people from NOLA in the Tampa area. There is a bar in Ybor City called Rocknsports owned by a person from "Metry." We had anywhere from 10 (in the beginning of the season) to 40 (at the end) watching the Sunday games.
