Because Tampa's not a "city" like you'd think of one. It has a relatively small "downtown" that is mostly used for corporate business, but it's not the majority of Tampa.

Seriously? Are there that many snakes around the Tampa area? Man, I hate snakes. I can deal with Bears, Wolves, Foxes and Moose.... but snakes? Oh and by the way, looking for a place with no Roaches? I have heard of 1 or 2 people saying they have Roaches here..... but I've never seen one. Pretty positive those people have disgusting homes and a roach must have been a stowaway in something that came into their home and multiplied? So if you want to get away from Roaches, Snakes and Alligators come on up to Alaska .. HAHAHA. You can take my spot.

Been in Florida since 1974. Lived in Tampa in the 70s and live there some now. I bike often through the everglades down south and in the wilderness areas here. Been canoeing I don't know how many times. Love the outdoors. I used to see indigo snakes back in the 70s. They're actually very beautiful and not harmful at all. Almost friendly, actually. Haven't seen one in the wild in 20 years. Sad.

Also I once came across a pigmy rattler who warned me off before there was any danger. So aside from a few garden varieties, pretty much all the other snakes I've seen have been in zoos. I saw way more snakes when I lived in Jersey and spent summers in the mountains. Probably they are less dangerous than polar bears anyway.

Yes, we have snakes. And roaches will be here no matter what. Dirty houses will have more, but you will see them regardless.

Don't forget about the brown widows - more deadly than the black widows and common in Tampa Bay. And...there are marine toads that will kill your dogs. And it rains so hard and fast it will literally sweep you off the road.

So true Sometimes I'm surprised that Sarasota doesn't put up a gate and charge admission fees.
