What are the downtown and Historic Northeast neighborhoods of St. Pete like? Fairly urban? Walkable? A lot to do as far as shops, cafes, services? Any comments on Crescent Park? Thanks!

Old NE is nice and walkable. So is Cresent Lake, but I like Old NE better. I work in downtown St. Pete. Downtown is also walkable but you do run into a lot of homeless hitting you up for money. Shops and restaurants are there, but a few are suffering. Half of Baywalk has left. I think downtown St. Pete suffered from growing to fast. In some ways it trys to be Tampa, and this is not Tampa. There is not a market to sustain all the condos and high rises in downtown. Having said that, I'd rather live here then in Tampa, and walk around down here then in Tampa.

Muta - Why do you say you prefer St. Pete to Tampa? What do you feel are the positives of it vs. Tampa? Are there walkable and urban areas in your opinion in Tampa? I've heard about Ybor City and Hyde Park - thoughts?

If you are the kind of person that enjoys walking everwhere, having the choice to see a movie, hit up an art gallery or have a picnic at the park than this is the area for you. There are homeless people here unfortunately, but every downtown in our country has that problem, lucky enough they only ask for change and than leave you alone. (Personally I have never had a problem with a homeless person since living here.)

It amazes me that most people think homeless people are a bother or a problem. I am not saying that you are stating this but just commenting on the content. I love homeless people and love talking to them and finding out their stories. Yes, stay away from the ones who are intoxicated but for the most part the every day homeless person is just lonely and down and out. They need love and compassion just as we do. Sorry to get on a soap box but the homeless are dear to my heart.

Check out my website under the Community Tab and you can find a link to everything Downtown Saint Pete has and even a little bit of information about what is currently in development.
Thanks
