Chinese Drywall concerns (Lakeside, Riverview: real estate, credit, attorney)

It is definitely true that with the massive economic boom in asia (at least until recently), the priority had been given to profit rather than safety, hence the problems mentioned above.

However, it would be unfair to say that the garbage has been going only in the Asia-to-US direction.
Remember Union Carbide Corporation a subsidiary of the Dow Chemical Company in Bhopal, India. 42 tonnes of toxic methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas were released, 10,000 people died within 72 hours and an estimated 25,000 died since of gas-related disease.

The thing about all the problems with imports from China - they are all manufactured for American companies who know quite well what they are getting and just don't care. They pay bottom dollar, they get bottom-quality. Ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

I know you can do self mold test in your home. they sell them at home depot/lowes/and stores comparable. they are pretty cheap ($20-25) and accurate.

Please add KB Homes to the list of offenders, Chinese drywall has been found in my KB Home completed in 4/2007. Another Tampa KB community made the news this week as well. Please have your KB Home checked..

Oh wow. What subdivision do you live in if I may ask Wiltznucs? I'm trying to keep a running list of subdivisions that have been reported to have it so I can be aware for my clients (I'm a Realtor). 2007 is late to have Chinese Drywall, most reports have it listed in homes built from 2003-2006.

P.S. You don't even need to buy a test really. Take the electrical plate off a wall socket and pull out the copper cord. If its black, there's chinese drywall. Also pull off the cover to your A/C handler. If the coils are black, there's chinese drywall. Sometimes the back of the drywall even has chinese lettering on it, but not always. Also its reported to make a house smell like rotten eggs and turns all metal in the house black.

Harbour Isles in Apollo Beach. Following a flurry of visits this weekend, there may be several homes affected one of which was completed in 2008.

Does anyone know if homes built as early as 1996 could have this problem?

If you bought a home built in the 2002-2005-ish timeframe, you may wish to have your home tested if you are experiencing any issues like those mentioned in the article. The information listed suggests homes built between 2002 and 2007 would have been in the Chinese Drywall era. I doubt a home built in 1996 would be a candidate.
