We are in need of tree trimming. We have some trees that need to be trimmed as well as some with huge branches that need to be removed. If anyone knows of licensed/insured/reputable trimmers please let me know.

I have already been stood up twice, by insured/licensed companies. This is not only limited to tree services, but includes movers, house cleaners, carpenters, etc. What is the deal with the work ethic in FL or Tampa Bay? People complain about not having work, but then they don't want to work when you hire them!

Pete & Ron's Tree Service took out a couple of big arborvitaes for us, but it was a while ago. I thought they were expensive, but they had the experience and equipment to back it up.

Do they over-commit and then can't follow through? What a waste of your time. Too bad you can't charge them for the time that you're wasting - I'd send them a bill $20/hr waited.

good idea, maybe charge them retroactively when you pay the final bill - I'd like to hear anyone having success with that !

Pete and Rons was very expensive - well I thought it was a lot Karen - I'd be interested to hear of some similar good companies that are not so high. Pete and Rons do have an excellent rep. but it would be nice to know that they are not the only good ones locally.

I once wait all day for a delivery of an entertainment center (furniture). The guy called me late in the afternoon and told me he was going to be several hours late - I told him to cancel the furniture delivery and I'd collect my refund the next day. I told the business that they lost a $1000 sale (salesman lost his commission, too) because they couldn't do what they promised.

It actually felt good to cancel the purchase.

To the OP we have had the same problem with the work ethic down here. We had a husband/wife team who were our lawncutters. Husband has a drinking problem and we found out the hard way.

He actually showed up drunk and I caught him going over to his truck for " a belt", this was around 3pm on a weekday. Drinking while riding a lawnmower. Not acceptable.

Can't have someone on your property with machinery who is drunk, there are children in the area and while I don't think the homeowner is liable, don't want the guilt of someone getting hurt.

But on several occasions have found workers don't show up on time, or show up at all when services are requested here.

That is very common here.

And do not pay anyone here in advance for any work, that is almost a guarantee you won't see them finish a job.
