My fiance and I just recently moved to Tampa and are looking to buy a home. From everything we've read, we think Westchase is a good fit for us. The only thing we noticed was that it seemed like the yards were really small. We were hoping to get a little more land and space. Is there a good neighborhood with everything Westchase has to offer (good schools, a decent commute to downtown, etc.) with bigger yards? We don't want to live too far out from the city, as we both work downtown. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

That is the problem with new nabes. Homes are older but most Carrollwood or CountryWay nabes have bigger yards.

I agree with Keeper that Countryway is a good choice compared to Westchase. Same with portions of Carrollwood, if you don't mind an older home. You'll have to pay close attention to the school boundaries in both areas to get Florida "A-rated" schools. How old are your children?

I agree with TampaK on the neighborhoods. I would also look at some of the areas of Oldsmar. There are some houses with very large yards. It's going to depend on your price.

Thanks for the replies. We don't have any children right now, but do plan on starting a family within the next couple of years, so we want to make sure we are in a family friendly area. We have driven a little through Carrollwood, but will definitely check out Countryway as well.

The older parts of Tampa Palms have bigger yards. However, it is a deed restricted area. There are things you can and cannot do. I wish I could grow a vegetable garden, but I am not allowed. I am not even allowed to put up a fence. If you find a home that is in a deed restricted community, make sure you can do what it is you want to do with your yard.

I moved to Carollwood recently for exactly that reason. I have a third of an acre and love it. The size is nice, but another big plus is the mature vegetation. Newer neighborhoods don't have as many mature trees. I know everybody before has pointed out Carrollwood but figured I would add my "vote" as well since I've been very happy with the decision in the two months since I moved here!
