Mornings heading to Brooksville should be uneventful. Heading home in the evenings you will hit more traffic but nothing like what it is heading into or out of Tampa.
I know this isn't really sound advice but do not move to Spring Hill. Hernando county is just not the place you want to live. There is absolutely nothing to do here, except the bowling alley and movie theater. The movie theater is extremely small, limited, and expensive. If you plan on going out with your husband on date night to a nice restaurant, it's not going to happen. The nicest palce here is the Outback Steakhouse. The closest mall is 25 minutes away in New Port Richey. It has almost no popular stores and is nicknamed the ghetto mall. They just opened an Old Navy and Best Buy nearby though. Hernando county has the highest unemployment rate in Florida. I do realize that it is a cheap place to live, but I would rather pay a little more money than live in this horrible town. The weather is horrible here. The heat isn't that bad, but the humidity will kill you. It was 80 degrees in November here this year, plus the humidity it felt more like 90! Even the beaches nearby are filled with trash and not fun to go to. The schools arn't that great either. Even though I loved my elementary, middle, and high school, they are overcrowded and the education is terribly poor compared to others around the country. You mentioned you had a son too. For his sake, please don't move here either. He will absolutely hate. I don't think I've met a kid who doesn't hate it here. Please, if you are planning on moving to the Tampa area don't move to Hernando County. I know it seems like I'm just an angry teenager complaining, but trust me I'm leaving this place as soon as possible and I wouldn't want you and your family to make a bad decision moving here. Oo, I almost forgot to mention the bugs. It is another country in Spring Hill when it comes to bugs. I cannot even begin to explain the nasty bugs you will find in your home or apartment, even if you spray constantly! Good luck on your search! I hope this helped!

Unless of course you like to do things outside like take a walk in a 30,000 acre preserve or canoe down the Weeki Wachee River. Maybe go boating or diving since we are right on the gulf. There is much to do here but some people like to limit themselves.

There is also another theatre that doesn't get first run movies so you can see the same movies 2 weeks after coming out and pay $3-$4 instead of $8 (which is not expensive for movie theaters)
For eating out you have a decent selection of small, independent restaurants from, Thai to Italian and seafood, etc. But some people never look that far, they only see the big advertised places.
The closest mall is 25 minutes away in New Port Richey. It has almost no popular stores and is nicknamed the ghetto mall. They just opened an Old Navy and Best Buy nearby though.
Nicknamed by you? I never heard it called that in the 10 years or so that I have lived in Pasco and Hernando. There is also the Citrus Park Town Mall about 30 minute away which is very nice
Hernando county has the highest unemployment rate in Florida.
You are wrong again, it is not good all over Florida for employment but Hernando is not the highest. Nice try at making things up though.

I guess when they were explaining in school that the closer you get to the equator the warmer it gets you were home sick. News flash, it has been this way for thousands of years, most people realize this.
I won't bother responding to the horrible town line. You really have posted nothing to back that up with except your uninformed opinion.
Even the beaches nearby are filled with trash and not fun to go to.
We do not have much in the way of beaches (small) but most days, that the weather allows, what we do have are filled to capacity so many would disagree that they are not fun to go to. Filled with trash? Hardly
The schools arn't that great either. Even though I loved my elementary, middle, and high school, they are overcrowded and the education is terribly poor compared to others around the country.
My children did not have any problems nor did I, as a parent with the schools here. What are you comparing to when you say they are overcrowded? Any statistics to back that up? I doubt it.

I never had a bug problem in any of my houses. Sure there are bugs but there is no place in the nation without bugs. As far as you hating it, there are 10's of thousands here that do not hate it. Many love it.
I hope this helped!
Just so you know, the OP has not posted on this site for over six months. I doubt she will ever read your post. But nice searching to find a Spring Hill thread so you could rant.
I would advise any one interested in moving to Spring Hill to just come down and take a look around. Stop in at the local diner and talk to some locals. They'll tell you the good places and the not so good places. Talk to the people who have lived there year round for a few years. Those are the ones who really know what its like. Most snowbirds have a whole different view of Florida life. The most important thing is to do your homework. Some neighborhoods around here are changing on a weekly basis.
There is not a word of truth in the entire posting. I can't believe what I was reading.
Anyone who would believe a shred of the quoted posting would be the most guilible person alive.

EATING OUT:There are a couple of really nice restaurants in the area and they are not chains. When my husband and I want a date night we go to Brians Place in Hernando Beach. The food is amazing and presented beautifully. There are other choices like Nouvelle Cuisine which is French and Chef's of Napoli which is excellent Italian. Local Markets are pretty good too... Murphy's is excellent for fresh produce and meat and Paesano's is a great local bakery with really good bread and goodies.
MALL/SHOPPING: The Wiregrass Mall which is about 30 minutes away is a beautiful mall and so is the Citrus Park Mall which is 35 minutes away but you do not have to go to the mall to go shopping, there are plenty of local stores. If you are a teenager, I do understand that it is inconvenient for your parents to drop you off a 1/2 hour away.
BUGS: I have no idea what bugs you encounter that are out of the ordinary. We have love bugs, mosquitos and the regular Tampa area bugs. It is funny to think weird bugs come to Spring Hill, lol.
JOBS: True, it cannot be denied that the county is not the best area for jobs. You can find something if you specialize in medical of course but otherwise it is an employers market and they pay bottom dollar.
SCHOOLS: Some schools are better than others, it really depends on where in the county you live.We do not have any children in the school system but when we do, I am likely to send them to private or magnet schools (just my preference).
BEACHES: If you catch the beach at high tide it's not so bad but I personally stay clear of the beach unless I head down to Honeymoon Island which isnt a bad ride at all. Bayport is nice and the beach is beautiful to watch the sunset but if I want to go into the water I prefer the water a little south of the county.
All in all, the source of the post was from a teenagers eyes. If I was a teen living growing up in the county, I would want to get out of the area myself to experience a faster pace life since it's what you do when your young. I dont think the area is the best for a teen wanting to explore b/c lets face it, it is kind of boring and the area doesnt have the best night life for that age group but if you are a family or a retired couple, the area isnt bad.
Hi, I lived in St. Pete, which is about 50 miles south of Spring Hill for about 7 years. Several years ago I looked at several homes in SH. Since then, alot of foreclosures. SH is a rural area. You are close to Tampa and St. Pete using the new Suncost Parkway toll road. However, the commute time is not good. If you are still working, there isn't alot of industry so you'll have to commute to have more options as far as jobs. However, I've heard that there is large company planning a big development in that area. I can't recall the name. Check tbo.com or sptimes.com. One thing you have to be aware of in all of Pasco/Hernando County is sink holes. Check sptimes. com for related articles. Your insurance may be higher in pasco/hernando because of this. You may want to also check out Tarpon Springs, Dunnedin and New Port Richey. They are not quite as rural and would be a much easier commute. Stay away from Hwy 19 for a commute. It is horrible. As for the general area, I can't wait to move back. I left in 2007 because of transfer. As soon as finances will allow I'll be moving back.
The problem is the POTENTIAL of a sink hole. If the sink hole is already there, you won't be. Yes, the threat of a sinkhole does keep the insurance rates higher. If you dont want to pay higher rates drop sinkhole coverage or dont live in Florida at all. Or a lot of Texas and a few other states that have sinkhole activity.
I commute from Spring Hill to New Port Richey ever day. No problems with the 25 minute commute on 19.

If anyone is worried about sinkholes, Dont come to Florida, If your worried about tornadoes, dont live anywhere from OK thru the mid east all the way to PA. If your worried about snow n ice, dont live anywhere north of NM/SoCA/FL, if your worried about "island fever" dont live in Hi........I think you should just stay in bed and pull the cover over your head........
All said tongue in cheek of course.
I/we, have lived in several countries, chose to come to the US, driven around the US for 2 yrs and chose to live in Spring Hill, now in our second home...we love it here! Any ???????? I'm a Realtor, (so of course I'm just saying this 'cause I'm one)
