We would like to move back to FL in the next 1-3 years. We have not lived in Tampa before. Recently we visited Nativity parish in Brandon. To say we were extremely pleased would be an understatement. I would like to base our house search on being close to a wonderful parish. Can anyone give me insight on other Catholic churches that are like Nativity (vibrant, active, beautiful music during mass, strong youth ministry, reverent priests, etc...)?

Thank you.

I just moved down here from Chicago with my wife and kids. I'm a 32 year old, life long catholic and can tell you that all the churches (Catholic and other denominations) are ON FIRE here. The other Catholic church near brandon is St. Stephens in Valrico - St. Stephen Catholic Church, Valrico, FL. For us, St. Stephens is a little more out of the way. Very similar to Nativity though in the way of youth ministry, music, etc.) Nativity rocks! The masses are great and the school, of course, is one of the best in the area. Best of luck!

thanks so much for your response! we plan on renting at first, so we can take our time and pick the right area. i feel very good about Nativity and will also visit St. Stephen's on my next trip. I just don't want to pass up any other areas that have great parishes like brandon/riverview do without checking them out first.

That's exactly what we are doing. The churches here have definitely been one of the highlights. Was a much tougher than expected transition for us but we're finally starting to get settled in.

The one in downtown Tampa, I believe it is Sacred Heart, is absolutely gorgeous. Its very old and traditional, unlike Nativity. Usually go to St. Steven but for the 8am mass. The one in Sun City is nice too...

Do a search for the St. Petersburg Diocese. They'll have them all listed.

The Diocese of St Pete has historically not been an uber-conservative one, but has been trending to the right lately-- if that's what the OP is asking. Nativity was always pretty conservative (far moreso than, say, St. Cecelia in Clearwater), but in general the diocese seems leaning that direction these days. Don't know if it's trickled down from B16, or what the reason is.

St. Stephen is an awesome church and I think if you meet Father Bill and Father Mike you would really like them. Father Bill is one of the kindest human beings on the planet and Father Mike is just a trip and a half. The whole congregation is wonderful. Good luck to you and welcome to the area.

St. Paul Catholic Church in Carrollwood has an active congregation, too! I enjoy driving by when they're ringing the bells, which is several times each day.

St. Anne Catholic church opened a huge new church this year. It caters mostly to Riverview, Apollo Beach, and Sun City.
