Relocating from New Jersey and will probably rent for the first year. I have a 16 year old son, so high school is important to me, as well as crime, and things to do. Does this area have alot for teenagers? If you live in Tarpon Springs, are you happy there-besides homeowners insurance rates? We love the beach and the west coast, but looking for good place to live, will probably work in Tampa area. Thank you for any responses!!! Sean

Hi! I drove schoolbus for Tarpon Springs HS for a while, and believe I can offer my perspective. Some of the kids I drove called Tarpon the "freak school." It has a magent program for drama, so there are some, um, well, "creative" types there. Most of the kids on my bus had dyed their hair, and osme had multiple piercings. BUT they were nice and polite. Tarpon also has a world class music program. There is quite a bit of money in TS, and some of the parents spare nothing when it comes to their children's activities. There are a lot of monetary and in-kind donations to the school. The one that stands out in my mind is the semi-trailer the music department has for the marching band. One of the parents donated it, and hauls it for them, no charge.

I heard once that tarpon had a reputation for being kind of rough. Now, beofre you worry, every school has bad kids, but the good kids usually outnumber them. I've been here 4 years, and have yet to hear any of MY coworkers say anything negative about Tarpon HS.

Its a cute little town with a great heritage that they strive to maintain. If I could afford to live in Pinellas County, I would definately consider Tarpon Springs. Good luck!
