I am relocating to the Tampa area and will be working downtown. I don't wanna commute, so I am looking to buy in South Tampa. But all that I am seeing is old houses that need A LOT of work. Has anyone renovated one of these houses and NOT lived to regret it? I am skeptical that renovating one of these house South Tampa specials will be a money pit; and plus, my realtor says that putting too much money into an old house is a bad idea because the land is worth more than the house.

Just replacing the electrical, plumbing and other major systems in one of these houses will cost tens of thousands.

We rented a house in S. Tampa and we honestly thought they would be better off knocking it down than rehabbing it (a few neighbors were rehabbing). Apparently there are all sorts of tax breaks if you rehab it instead of knocking it down though.

There are some newer homes in South Tampa. Near the AFB.
But, you must ck out the flood zones!!!

Some good places in Hyde Park. But, again you have to ck the flood zones!

Getting a good Realtor would be best.
