My girlfriend and I are going to be attending USF for grad school and we're trying to figure out where to live. We're looking for either an apartment or condo to rent. It seems like everybody wants to talk about the crime rate and what not, which is in every city in the country, so I'm skeptical that Tampa is any worse than anywhere else. We're basically looking for somewhere that is safe (obviously) and not more than say 25-30 minute drive to campus. I would prefer to be outside the middle of the city. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I know this community in land o lakes, very family friendly community and few USF students lives here. It is about 30 mins drive to USF. This community has everything that you can ask for. Very safe place to live. Let me know if you are interested and i can provide more info. There is one house for rent that may be cheaper than apartments if you compare amenities that you will get with it.

Since you dont want to be in the middle of the city, and a 'safe' area, less than 30 min commute to USF, id recommend areas like Tampa Palms, New Tampa, Wesley Chapel.

You should look at The Lodge at Lakecrest. Really nice places and very close to campus. Lodge at LakeCrest: Tampa, Florida - A Luxury Apartment Residence
