Hi all, looking to move to tampa area I have done plenty of research till I'm blue in the fingers, I've been to the area, an grew up in florida, but what i'm looking for is a decent area to raise a family that is within 20-30 mins to the beach but doesn't cose me an arm and leg to live . I would like to be in a safe area and still be able to afford food. any sugesstions

Seminole and Largo. Both cities are on high ground and just minutes from the beach. Fairly resonable prices. Remember, look at the Hurricane Evacuation Zones. Many cities mentioned are in Evacuation Zones. If the big one comes you will be much more comfortable on high ground in your own place rather than in a shelter or motel. Its a fact of life on the Florida Coast.

Both Seminole and Largo have very nice and safe areas, but I think the best areas are closer to the beach and possibly further from Tampa than the OP wants to be-so I didn't mention them.
But......Seminole is 24 ft above sea level, Largo 40. Dunedin is 39, Clearwater and Palm Harbor are 50. Actually I have been told my home is 80 ft above and I am in a non evacuation zone. Safety harbor is 14 but my daughters home is in Zone 4, You may be right about Oldsmar as it is only 8, and I don't know anyone who lives there to ask their zone.
But it's neither here nor there, because there are areas in the other places I mentioned that are either in a high zone level or non-evactuation zone as well as areas that are zone A or likely to flood in any storm.
There are just so many areas that run from the coast to far inland that to say a whole city should be avoided is misleading to those asking the questions.
