Living here 19 years in Tampa, ive had my time in Ybor, and still go for some of the restaurants and festivals/art showings, etc. Never have I seen, no anyone personally, or been victim of a crime there, but it does happen. From what ive seen, very heavy police presence, on horse, plainclothes, just about each corner has someone on duty, let alone the dozen or so video cameras throught the main drag and garages. Just be aware of your surroundings, and always park in one of the garages.

If you really want to party in Ybor, go with some friends. There's safety in numbers. Also, follow the suggestion of parking in the garage. Often, you'll find lots just slightly off the main strip (7th Ave) with a little bit of light. Avoid this as much as possible. Another option for parking is to park at the Channelside garage and take the trolley to Ybor.

As far as the people there, you'll always see trouble whenever you mix alcohol and a rowdy crowd. A few years back a teen club was established there. I don't know if it's still around, but this club had underage patrons that caused a lot of trouble for the older crowds.

Hope you have fun!

I live on the east coast but visit Tampa regularly. My friend is even doing a free style concert and has gotten to know some of the club promoters there.

I have never had an issue. My many friends that are "local"so to speak, all frown upon it.

News articles will tell you Ybor is a great place to go for entertainment, and is safe up until about 11:00 p.m. It's those after hours clubs and drinking when it becomes wild and somewhat unsafe.

I love Ybor, but I'm in and out of there early!

Is it safe to party at a crack-infested area? No? Well, then don't go to Ybor city.

IN Orlando, we have Church Street Station, which was getting pretty violent, but OPD has been arresting some of the dealers. Not happening in Tampa yet.

A gal I know lived in Lakeland and she goes to Ybor a lot and she has seen a ton of fist fights on the street, has been offered drugs on the street, and has heard several screams and cops running.

Not a good area!!

I've lived in the Tampa Bay area twice and been back since '96, I know better than to go down there at night... not a good place to be after dark if you value your car and without a really big crowd.

I would have to agree. Unless I were in a fairly large group (6-8) with at least two big guys, I wouldn't want to be there after dark...

It is not safe to go alone, there have been rapes before. It is not good area to walk around in at nite or daytime. Too near bad areas for me.

The new place all the young people are going is Floyds it turns in to nite club at time at the Hardrock Hotel. We were there Saturday for dinner and were amazed at the 21 and above there waiting for opening of Niteclub.
