TALLAHASSEE (Bay News 9) -- A proposed law may increase the penalties for drivers who have their stereos cranked up too loud.

Drivers can already be fined more than $100 if their stereos can be heard 25 feet away from their vehicle, but some state lawmakers say that's not cutting it.

Cranking up your car stereo could get more expensive - Bay News 9 (http://www.baynews9.com/content/36/2009/9/30/527648.html?title=Cranking+up+your+car+stereo+coul d+get+more+expensive - broken link)

Good way to fill up the budget and at the same time get rid of these nasty boom boxes on the road...I can't stand it when I'm at a traffic light and my whole car starts to shake due to the bass of the music system of a fool, but I guess the police won't be there to hear it.....

Will they actually enforce this one? I have never seen the current law enforced.

It is a shame they will not crack down in FL on those who drive with no car insurance.

While a loud car stereo is annoying for a few minutes it is outrageous that you can get away with driving in FL and have no car insurance.

Only state I know of where the car is not impounded when they get pulled over. They get a ticket and contiune to drive.

Unbelievable.

There is quite a lot of that "boom boom" here in Tampa. Hard to get used to! Loud music is one thing but it's another thing entirely when my entire car is vibrating.

You are absolutely right...the music is annoying for a short period the other is way worse and it is very disturbing when you watch what is going on in traffic court.

I was there and a person on a DUI was sentenced not to drive, but was asked do you need your car for work...of course the person said "yes" and could keep driving...some coming into court for DUI had prior DUI's...IMO the only way is to impound the car so they can't drive...maybe that way they learn a lesson, the same counts for driving uninsured....impound the car, too bad if other family members are using the car....I feel sorry for them, but all these b.s. excuses will not change anything, because they all will claim that other family members are driving the car and nobody is checking if they lie or not.

Not soon enough, not expensive enough, and not enough enforcement. These laws will only get enforced when it directly affects the people in charge.

I always wonder how long it will take before these teenagers will get hearing issues...

I have a friend who worked in a fashion store and started in the 80's, when in Europe it was very common to have the music on very loud so customers hardly couldn't talk which each other...she was there full time...after 4 years she got hearing issues. The store mergered with another company who turned the music down but the damage was done, and in hardly any European country you can sue any one for these reasons....over here she would have been a millionaire, now she is still working in the same store which was taken over by H&M and has to live with bad hearing....

Exactly. This is just about trying to generate income. Loud music is annoying, yes, but what is it costing us vs uninsured drivers. Or how about cracking down one of the 10 red light runners I see on a daily basis.

"Not soon enough, not expensive enough, and not enough enforcement. These laws will only get enforced when it directly affects the people in charge." VERY TRUE

Not soon enough indeed........that is soooooooooo RUDE! and annoying........but I agree, the state would make SOOOO much money fining these smart a**es that our property taxes could go down considerably!

I agree that they need to crack down on uninsured motorist. They need to impound their cars.

I am also in favor of cracking down on knuckleheads with loud car radios. Ever notice that generally the music coming from these cars is garbage?
