I read that Lakeland is much cheaper than living in the Tampa/Clearwater/St. Pete area, but the housing there on realtor.com leaves much to desire I thought....unless I'm missing where the nicer condos are. I did look in 33803 (I think it was) on that site, which is the south Lakeland area.
How much cheaper overall is living in Lakeland or that area vs. living in the Tampa region? 10%? 20%? Anyone have any idea?
Lakeland of somewhere between would be perfect as it is between Tampa and Orlando, both cities I need to visit.

Hi, I remember answering some of your questions before, since I used to live in Lakeland. The thing is, if you are looking for condos, Lakeland is a pretty "small-scale" city, there aren't a lot of big condos, you will find many more condos in the larger metro areas like Tampa or Orlando. That said, I don't really know how prices compare for the ones that do exist there.

Other than that, Lakeland will be a little cheaper as far as homeowner's insurance and car insurance, but honestly it's a bit expensive for utilities there. I have to admit that I thought it would be a lot cheaper living there, but ALL of my expenses except homeowner's went way down when we moved down here to Manatee County. I can't believe how cheap we live here.

The benefit to living in Lakeland is that it's a nice little city right between the two big ones (Tampa/Orlando) that you indicated you will travel too. I know they have been building new condos and/or apartments over near the Lakeside Village open-air mall which is a very nice area. You might check around there, and also there were some small-scale nice loft-style apartments right downtown. Any smaller towns between the two big cities will have even LESS condo offerings, there is not a lot of demand for condos in small towns.

Good luck!

Yes! Right across the street are some upscale condos located in Oak Bridge. Really beautiful!
