Hello everyone and thanks in advance. My family and I are moving to Tampa this Feb. I have 3 kids ages 7, 3, and 9. My husband is in the music business (bass guitar player) and I have a paralegal degree. I was wondering about jobs in the legal field. What about legal assistants. Are there plenty of jobs like that there? What is the nightlife like, is there many classy restaurants, and how is Tampa holding up with the economy the way it is? I know that it is rough everywhere and I heard that Florida got hit hard but is it hard for all people or just people who work in certain areas to get jobs?

There are jobs. Nearly all of them are filled or have dozens of candidates lined up. Even Publix and Winn-Dixie have their pick of a multitude of candidates, and are no longer hiring fourteen-year-olds.

The Bay Area's been hit hard-- which is not to say every individual has, but a huge number have, and not just itinerant construction and restaurant workers.
DO NOT move here without a job lined up. DO NOT move here without having done your homework. (Note: posting on City-Data is not sufficient homework.)

Thanks for the advice. I know this is not enough homework. I've been on here, talking to people that live in Tampa, and planning a visit down soon. I also know how hard it is to get a job from out of state but I heard I can get a PO Box and use that.

I fixed the year for you!!!

You do need to visit. There are a lot of ppl looking for jobs who live in Tampa so if you live out of state your chances of getting a job are nil. You don't want to move down without enough funds and a job to live.

Thanks for fixing that for me! I do have another question though. How is the music scene down there like?

Eh, I don't think there's much of a music scene for those past high school age.
