I'll be moving to St Pete or Tampa within few month and will be attending SPC. Hopefully find a job after I graduate.
I'm thinking of buying a studio/apartment or townhouse for around $50000. I do not wish to take out a loan.
I know i wont be getting a nice apartment, but want it to be in a safe/ decent areas.

Current areas im looking at is
St Pete: 33703/ 33704/ 33702 - downtown or near northeast
Tampa:33624/ 33625/ 33626- Carrollwood and Citrus Park. Far from school but can transfer

I'm currently leaning towards Tampa.
What do you think???? Any advice or other place you like to recommend??

Thanks.

It's doubtful that you'll find a halfway decent townhome for 50k. The "cheapest" ones I've seen are usually around 100k.
I can't comment about the Tampa zip codes but 33703,33704 and 33702 are all great areas. If you do 33703 I'd suggest staying out of Shore Acres, navigating those roads is a pain and it'll easily tack on another 10 minutes to your commute. Also Shore Acres has a flooding problem - everytime there are a few days of heavy rain the roads will flood and if a hurricane blows through you'll be one of the first to have to abandon your home.

33704 is generally associated with the Old NorthEast area - and i think Snell Isle is part of that area as well. Old NE is a fantastic area, lots of character and period homes as well as easy walking access to places to eat and fantastic area if you like biking/running.

33702 is slightly more developed but there are a lot of nice homes in this area. Lots of big apartments here along Gandy and 4th that will make your commute an easy one (and it seems like a lot of younger people live in those mega apartment complexes).
Living on Gandy will give you easier access to the Bayshore area of Tampa, that's where places like McDittons is (a popular hangout spot for 20 somethings).
