If anyone can help me to figure out what the commute/traffic situation looks like I would appreciate it. Looking into job oppurtunities that I am interviewing for. Although, I don't want to move to Tampa.

Is 275 N packed to the bridges in the morn commute?
Should I take Gandy to crosstown express? Is that possible?
Hows the traffic?
Thanks for any info.

Depends on time of day, I would say 630am would be best time.
otherwise I would move to Brandon or Riverview.

You are probably looking at 45 minutes to an hour on a Sunday (or before 6:30 in the morning). I'd say youi'd tack on another 30 minutes at peak rush hour. The crosstown would probably be a 15 minute increase as it would limit the amount of traffic you'd go through. As I'm sure you know, you'd be paying tolls twice (once to use the South Crosstown and once to use the expressway).

Good luck!

Default Thanks Shilly and Sunshine

Thanks for the info Shilly and Sunshine!
Do you know what the toll would be? Do you have to get a Sun Pass or can you use cash? Is the expressway always open?

If you take the Selmon Expressway via Gandy Blvd. to Brandon, then expect to pay about $3.50 per one way. However, your drive to Brandon from Gulfport in the morning won't be too bad on the Expressway since you are going the opposite flow of rush hour traffic.

In the morning, traffic from Brandon going West on the Expressway is very heavy. That is why the second level of the Expressway goes only Westward in the morning to alleviate traffic problems. The opposite happens in the afternoon. The second level becomes one-way going East (to Brandon) and most of the traffic flows East from the West.

Having a Sun Pass is very convenient because it will prevent you from waiting on line to pay for your toll. With a Sun Pass, you can just zip thru the express lanes at about 25 to 30 MPH per hour. Plus, the Sun Pass can be used with other toll roads in the state of Florida. Also, the Selmon Expressway is open all the time. However, take note of the direction of the second level since it is only open to traffic flow from certain directions at certain times.

Default Thanks QACR

Thank you.

Do you think it would be a good idea to exit the expressway on 78th st., 301, or I75 to get up to Martin luther king towards (Sabal Park)

Is it really crowded getting onto I75 going N from Expressway?

Frankly, I would avoid going on I-75 N during morning rush hour if you are only going to Sabal Park. If I were you, I'd take the Expressway all the way to the Faulkenburg Rd. exit. Then, take Faulkenburg Rd. going north (left turn if coming from the West) and you will end up in Sabal Park in less than 10 minutes. Check out this rough map: http://tinyurl.com/2xamma (broken link)
