I drink on all the beaches and no one ever says anything. I don't get crazy, loud, or obnoxious though...just take a 12 pack of cans in a cooler, wrap them in a koozie, and I'm good.

I agree, not the place. You know people don't have to booze to have a good time. And not everyone enjoys the company of drunks, they can get obnoxious.

What he said, me and wife have reguarly had a few drinks on days out at the beach. I even got told a story by a friend who was down Ft Desoto on 4th July, they had a lot of friends and family drinking, but no one was getting out of control or rowdy. This cop came up to them and they feared that they were going to get into trouble for having a beer can, but the cop just told them about an incoming storm and to prepare accordingly.

I would venture to guess that most people who want to drink on the beach just want to sit in a lawnchair under an umbrella and get wasted, not go out in the water and get stupid.

Really I would ask the lifeguards about stupid people.

Alcohol ,surf, sunburn, and then maybe a drive home to top it all.

Inevitably there will be empty containers on the beach as well.

There's a patch of Treasure Island beach where you can't bring your own alcohol. It's the spot just in front of Caddy's and some distance north and south of it - a half mile maybe...? This is just because the crowds at Caddy's were getting too wild. You can BYOB anywhere else, though. Sunset Beach is pretty chill.

I've consumed alcohol on beaches up and down the east coast, and I've never had any problems. If you don't act like an *** and clean up after yourself chances are you won't have any problems.

I agree with the ones who said that public beaches aren't the place for alcohol. Coming from an alcoholic family, there's too many problems that can arise when alcohol is in the presence. If you can't have fun or go without alcohol for a little while, then that's too bad.

Look how alcohol friendly my city is (Key West) and you can see how the tourists make fools of themselves and how stupid they act. It's inappropriate, especially around children.

That's one of the reasons I like the beaches up here in the Tampa area. There aren't as many drunks wondering around acting like idiots and there's hardly any alcohol in the presence.
