I am Cuban and I just moved here. I am looking for REAL Cuban bread. Most of the bread I have come across is not real Cuban bread. It's the "Tampa Cuban bread", which is more like French bread than Cuban bread. Where can I find real Cuban bread? It's very pale yellow, very very flaky, make with lard, fat and short (not long and thin), and is very light and crispy.

Haven't been there myself because I don't live in Tampa anymore, but I hear you can get the real thing at Mauricio Faedo's Bakery on north Florida Ave.

I'll have to try this bread when I move. Personally I love Hawaiian bread... YUMMY.

The Faedo bread is not real Cuban bread; neither is the one at La Segunda Central Bakery.

This sounds like the bread we get from Pipos with takeout. It's very light (not brown at all) and when you bite into it, it crumbles like a cracker. I have no clue what size the loaf is since it's served sliced. Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but it's another source for you to look into. Good luck!

Then I think you are out of luck. The "Tampa" Cuban bread is all I have ever had, and tastes pretty darn good to me. Maybe you can bake some the way you like?

Have you tried Florida Bakery on Columbus Ave. next to Arco Iris Rest?
This is where all the cubans I know go for their pastries....

Are there lots of restaurants around Tampa that serve Cuban Cuisine? I have never had it and love to try new foods.

The Cuban bread in publix when fresh is not bad in my opinion if you look in to chains.

Columbus Av. is your best bet. The one close to the La terecita (?) has all Cuban stuff but don't remember seeing the Cuban bread there. The cake and other stuff is just great. Perhaps people working there will advise you if you can't find it there.

Good luck and please report back the best Cuban bread you find as we frequently buy it and we have settled to Publix.

I am originally from Miami and have yet to find any Cuban bread or food in general that reminds me of home. Must be a regional thing.
