My dad, who will be visiting us next month, has requested that we take him to a German restaurant. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure if they serve food, but I know there's a German bar off of Waters right before you get to Dale Mabry. Right across from the Spanish shopping plaza.

Yes, Schnitzelhaus on Waters Ave. at Manhattan has great schnitzel and the sauerkraut is to die for. It's a restaurant, not a bar, although they do have beer and wine. They are not open on Monday or Tuesday so plan accordingly.

I think there is at least one Dunderbak's location that is still open, but they are in shopping malls so I don't like the ambience. They do have a fantastic beer selection, though.

There is also a German deli in south Tampa on El Prado, I think it's called Schiller's. It has a good reputation but I have never been.

There used to be a German restaurant at Busch Gardens. The food was really good, but it's been a long time ago that I ate there. Maybe someone else here can tell you if it's still there; or maybe you could do some additional research.

There's a Bavarian restaurant in St. Pete Beach on Gulf just south of 75th.

Restaurant Old Castle Tavern

813-633-6900

3830 Sun City Center Blvd
Sun City Center, FL 33573

Pretty decent food, but the location is about 20 miles south of Tampa and it is located in a strip mall type of place. Small restaurant, but I know Germans that enjoy the food. http://www.oldcastletavern.us/

Thank you for the back up. I've just passed it a couple of times.

Dunderbaks moved from University Mall to a much bigger (and better!) location on Bruce B. Downs in New Tampa last year.

Here's their web site: Dunderbaks

Check out Creative Loafing's Bites offers, sometimes they will sell $30 gift certificates for $15. https://www.terratialce.com/tcce/cus...s&market=tampa
They don't have Dunderbaks listed on there now, but they change their offers frequently, so check back often.
