My wife and I run a windshield repair business we repair rock chips and small cracks in automotive windshields for mainly used car dealers and some private customers via insurance. Does anyone here know what the business is like in Florida Tampa and St Pete especially.

I have heard that Florida law requires you to replace the windshield.
Is this for just a crack or for chips as well?

Thanks TN

I don't know if there is a law about chips. I do know that the rental cars are repaired and not replaced.

Hello Bones Thank you for the heads up.

If the Rental car fleets are repairng then it is probably a safe bet that the used car dealers are repairing and not replacing as well.

I will have to for sure check out the rentral fleets as well.

97% of our business is from used car dealers.

In florida, there is a law that states that if your windshield was damaged, you dont have to pay the deductible if you have comp/collision on that vehicle. It says nothing about replacing versus repairing. I would imagine that decision would be based on the size of the crack.

Florida Statute 627.7288 states that the deductible shall not apply to windshield damages. However, you must have either comprehensive or collision coverage. A policy that provides liability coverage only will not cover your windshield
