Like neighborhood bars and such?

Seems like a lot of people in the area are into "clubbing" and such. Is there an ample amount of normal, relaxed bars in the city?

Is there a such thing as a "relaxed" bar? I always thought bars were for drunks anyways.

What is a "relaxed" bar? There are establishments for ALL kinds in the Tampa area.

I know what he is talking about. When I lived in NJ, there was the Dutch House Tavern. You can go in there, get a hamburger and a beer, or find a table and sit with friends and drink for a few hours and even play video games in the back room. No loud music, loud obnoxious drunks, or weird sexual stuff. I have not seen anything like that in Tampa. The closest I have seen is not a bar, but billards place in New Tampa. Lots of college kids go there to play pool and drink. It is very smokey, but not loud.

You could find these more relaxed bars/taverns in NYC too. I bet there are places like that in Tampa or St. Pete.

Check out The Independent, just north of where Florida Ave. becomes one way. I've also read that The Hub downtown is a good bar.

The Independent is about a mile from my house though, so... It's a pretty cool place. It's small and local to my area but it has a great selection of stuff on tap—weird stuff that you don't see in very many places.
