Hey All,

New to the forums and there is TONS of great information listed on this site.

My family is considering moving to the tampa bay area ( my parents first) and then my brother and I (24-27 yrs old) a few years down the road.

Need to know a few good locations for my parents. They are looking most likely a quieter and safer neighborhood (age 40-60). Here is the criteria:

-a safe location about 20-30 minutes away from the coast ( I think the bay or coast is fine) Good fishing, clear water, and a nice beach.

-Job market where there are tech jobs (for me) and may more more manual labor jobs such as factory jobs for the parents

-Location near shopping centers and restaurants (entertainment in general)

-Housing around $65,000-100,000. 2 bedroom should be fine since it will only be them staying but the extra bedroom will be nice.

Anyone recommend any areas that I can start calling real estate agents in to start looking for a house?

You are going to struggle even in this market with that kind of budget for housing.
You may find a bankruptcy but a nice 2/3 bedroom in a good, quiet and safe neighborhood with access to entertainment/shopping centers and restaurants within a closer distance you are looking at over the 100K

Thanks for the reply can you tell me what to expect. The numbers can be more flexible. Does 35-40min away move down the price with the other attributes staying the same?

There are plenty of condos in a nice areas in your price range. Problem is 1) most are short sales that you would really need time to get them and know the process. 2) if your parents are going to finance the place it may be tough to get it for condos. If they are buying cash, they can get great deal. Also, you need to check monthly fees and if there is a special assessment. Bottom line is in your lower range you will likely to get a condo and in your upper range you MAY get singly family home but as lavender said it's tough for that price. Good luck

You can buy 2bedroom homes all day long in west Pasco county for under 60k.

Only places in Florida that is close enough to the water, meet your industry requirements and be around the price you are looking at are probably near Jacksonville and Tampa. Do a search using Realtor.com and see what you find. Good luck.
