Moving to this area to retire. Main concerns are sinkholes, hurricane insurance, flood insurance, taxes, etc. Any and all input is appreciated. Safety Harbor is our main interest and we are coming to visit next week the 22nd March, 2010, to check out the area.

They're all nice places in their own right. Clearwater to me is the favorite as it offers better access to more things to do, though many whine about the traffic. Though like me, you may find the traffic gripe comical, depending upon where you are moving from. From your list, I think you'll find flood insurance an issue only in parts of Dunedin. Sinkholes are more so an issue I think up towards Palm Harbor, and hurricane insurance is pretty equivalent in the places you listed. It becomes more specific with house/roof type versus location. Good luck!

Yep. Last time I checked property crime nose dived by 100000% from two years ago and non-existent now

Default Safety Harbor

God that is good to know. We are looking into moving to Safety Harbor or Dunedin
or that area as long as we can get to water live in a non deed neighborhood and be
safe. We are moving from Venice because they are getting ready to destroy this town and area
over 20,000 permits recently issued for large subdivisions. Venice was a small town when we moved here
full time five years ago. Want a forever town or city for rest of our retirement but am addicted to water but
need affordability due to retirement. Thought SH was affordable? How about Dunedin or other ideas near
there. Not in St Pete city by on outside ok. Suggestions please

Affordable is a relative term- you can find modest homes in both Safety Harbor and Dunedin, although currently Dunedin has a lot more going on - much more vibrant downtown. I live in Safety Harbor (20 minutes closer to Tampa, and airport). Affordable and not deed restricted might be a hard combination unless its a very modest home (i.e. small fixer upper). I live in a deed neighborhood (although pretty relaxed- I have also lived in pretty strict neighborhoods) that is a five minute walk (1/4 mile) to the water and Phillipe Park
