hi - any good recommendations on hotel to stay in for our scouting trip to Tampa? We'd like to be able to walk to the beach with the kids.

Our scouting trip will be generic parameters of an hour north & south of Tampa so I'm not requiring hotel options in Tampa proper.

A clean Hampton Inn or the like (nice to get a "free, warm" breakfast in the kids before the day starts). Open to other options/locations as we don't know the area.

Thanks!

Lots of hotels to choose from, Not sure who has free breakfast though. If you want to walk to the beach, check out st pete beach, clearwater beach, treasure island, madeira beach, north redington beach, belleair beach, indian rocks beach, they all have hotels of varying shapes and sizes. If you are staying longer than 3 nights, why not look for a condo, you have more room, more privacy and there are great rates once april is out. Nothing in hillsborough will put you on a beach, except maybe a couple of the business hotels on courtney cambell causeway area that have manmade beaches on the intracoastal/bay area. They would be the nearest to tampa proper as all the named beaches are in pinellas county across the bay.

We may overlap spring break. What's quieter between St Pete, Clearwater or Sarasota? I'm guessing Sarasota, so maybe just between St Pete & Clearwater?

During spring break none of the beach hotels will be that quiet. Sarasota maybe as it is possibly less of destination for college students, but having said that, I think most are done, you have only to contend with the state schools and religious schools around the easter/passover dates, which is March 29th week. This is still snowbird season though.
