Ok I live right outside of Memphis, TN right now and i absolutley HATE it here! I have always wanted to go to school at USF but instead got pregnant and married (now divorced) and have been stuck here ever since My little girl is 5 now and will be starting kindergarten in the fall and I started attending a local community college in Jan. Anways, I still feel like Tampa and Florida is where I need to be. I have a million questions but will start with how are the schools for kids and raising a family there? and the cost of living? jobs? (currently office assistant for 7yrs)
thanks in advance!

I'm a sinble mom ready for a change and I'm seriously considering (like my bags are out and ready to pack) moving to Clearwater. My son and I visited there three years ago and LOVED IT! I had a friend that lives in Clearwater, who we stayed with. She gave us the grand tour and will be excited when she finds out we have the "Clearwater Bug".

Although my friend lives there (single mother living with her father), I don't feel I should camp out at her house. I want to have an apartment, job, and everything else when I go. This is very difficult because I can't get an apartment there until I know I have a job that can afford it and I can't get a job down there (which I am figuring out) unless I live and have an address down there. With being a single mother, it's not like I can sleep in my car, or find an efficiency or something; it just doesn't work that way when your children come first.

Now that I have rambled... From what I've heard Seminole or St Petes area is a great place to be. Far enough out of Tampa for a "normal" life, but close enough to go there if needed, and it's closer to the beaches!! I've actually heard that Largo/Clearwater area isn't the best for schools, but that is just from other posts on here.

Good luck and let me know what you find out and if you end up going!

Actually Largo and Clearwater have decent enough schools, just not good enough for the hyper-competitive white-bread types who want to live in the cookie cutter suburbs with people just like themselves. They love to cast stones at others choices and deride anything but "best". Kind of gross.
If you're an involved parent who doesn't leave child-rearing to teachers/coaches/school administrators, your child will succeed in most any environment. Clearwater is a beautiful city that would be a great for you to live and work, as well as raise a child. Best of luck with the move and welcome to the area! I'm moving down myself by the end of the year
