Hillsborough County Teachers (St. Petersburg: private schools, centers, bill)

So,.....one more hit to teachers...

Tenured or not, Hillsborough targets weak teachers - St. Petersburg Times

I'm thinking on one hand sure, fire everyone who doesn't care enough about their class to make sure everyone understands what is taught....on the other hand, sure it sucks...as always private plane usage wins!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, meaning the money is used for frivolous purposes again, (private planes by the Gov ppl, or other frivolous/useless expenses) and taken away from education.......maybe teachers WOULD BE more motivated if they were paid better......!? and also not have their resources chopped up every month! and forced to reply on jobless parents for supplies!!!!!!!!

If teachers were allowed to actually TEACH real subject matter and not just be required to make sure their students are able to memorize just enough information to pass the standardized tests in order to make the districts 'performance' look good on paper, then maybe kids would actually learn something.

I truly think teachers can't win. Its a tough profession these days. Schools used to be centers of their communities and parents were involved. Parents these days are involved a lot less than they used to be and many of them do not assist their children with homework.... or check up on their homework for that matter. Too many parents these days think that sending your kids to school everyday should be enough for your kid to excel and do well. When they don't, they blame the teachers. My daughter keeps telling me she wants to be a teacher when she grows up. I am crossing my fingers she chooses something different when she gets older.
Do you know why private schools do better? Its not that the teachers or material is any better. Many private schools require a set number of hours for the parents to volunteer. And you better believe the parents that send their kids to private school are helping their kids with homework since they are paying for the education and receive a bill as a reminder.
