- You wont be paying state income tax
- Gas is about 20-30 cents cheaper a gallon
- Food is cheaper
- Cable is about the same. Here you aren't stuck with cablevision though. you have options. You can get phone/internet/cable from brighthouse for 99 a month, verizon is a little more expensive.

Yeah ive taken all of that into account. Between having no state income tax and the cost of living i calculated it would almost be a 20,000 a year increase for me...As i am fortunate i will be making the same salary down there as i am here. So therefore minus the state income tax and cost of living, it just really seems like a no brainer as long as i have secured a job which i have.

And as far as cablevision your absoulutely right, Verizon is making their run up here but it will always be cablevisions market....They suck u in with the triplle play package(cable/internet/phone) for 99 a month and then after the year is up it shoots up to 170+.

So im pretty much decided, just a matter of finding a nice area to live.

^^Good. well feel free to chime in or DM me with questions at any time. I lived in Savannah GA for 6+ years between Long Island and Tampa... this is my favorite place so far. I think you are making a great move considering your salary isnt changing.

I wouldn't cross New Tampa off your list just yet. You can find rent under $1,000 and it is a very good neighborhood. One drawback- the traffic. Come down to visit and take a look

I'm late to this thread, but wanted to speak to your question about Rivercrest and Riverview. Rivercrest is a large community in an area with other large developments: Panther Trace, Southpointe, Avelar Creek, and Summerfield all along US301 (it's being widened, halleluliah!) A new mall and hospital are under construction. Completion may take longer than anyone wants due to the present economy. Because most of the building in Rivercrest, Panther Trace & Southpointe began at the bubble, you need to be very careful that a) the landlord is the owner of record and that b) he/she is financially solvent. Unfortunately, there are scammers out there and some landlords are collecting rent and not paying the mortgage. Don't let yourself get into one of these situations. Florida is a disclosure state; you can lookup Deed & Mortgage info on the Clerk's website.

IMO, Riverview is probably positioned better than Wesley Chapel & New Tampa because of location. There's very little retail or entertainment in Wesley Chapel and it's even more rural to the north. To their benefit though, there are some beautiful communities in WC & NT. Riverview has little retail at the moment, but has easy access to I-75 for great beaches and parks to the south and to the Selmon Crosstown to downtown Tampa/Ybor for sports & entertainment. You may find very small (1000sf) houses in Carrollwood at the higher end of your range, but they are not going to have 2-car garages nor be the newer construction you'll find in the northeast Wesley Chapel and southeast Riverview areas.

Good luck
