Hello! I’m new to the boards and I know you’ve probably answered this question a thousand times. I’m planning to relocate to the Tampa area with 2 small children. Can someone tell me what are the best school district for elementary and middle schools and what are the best suburbs in terms of crime and that are family oriented. We’re looking for houses around $300’s, can be new projects or used homes.
Thank you so much.

I love New Tampa area. Schools compete with each other to be better than the next one. People are all transplants and are looking for new friends and everything is very family oriented. The growth is also unbelievable. 3 new malls are coming just in the intersection of 75 and 56.

We move from out of state 1 yr ago, rent in Seven Oaks, look everywhere else and kept staying in seven oaks because we love everything about the comunity.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I don't think anyone can give you good info without knowing where you will be working, how long a commute is acceptable, how close to the beach you want to be, what activities you like.

I will say I've never thought of Gulfport as being a great area for families. I think it is more an area for the trendy/artsy singles and couples. ymmv, though.

When I was moving back to Tampa from Charlotte I asked my family and friends which was the best burb to move back to and everyone told me Wesley Chapel and New Tampa. The schools in our subdivision are A rated schools and we are convenient to everything we need.

My wife and I have two children here and we feel extremely safe.

Ditto on all of the information that elizabethdonley stated.

Where are you moving from?

I grew up in Temple Terrace - in the NE part of Tampa, "up" the river. It may have changed since 1985 when I left, but it was a very nice, relatively safe community.

Good luck with schools ANYWHERE in Tampa. My recollection was that they were pretty much all bad.

Odessa is very nice. It seems a bit hard for regular stores, things seem a little spread out compare to New Tampa. Where would you be working?

If you work in the west side Odessa is really nice, and probably one of the best options but if you work in the East side I would say Odessa is out, anywhere from 1 to 1.5 hour commute each way.
