My husband and I are moving to Tampa soon. My job is downtown and my husband is planning on attending Erwin Technical. Is there an area of town that would keep both of our commutes around 30 minutes? We're looking for a nice, safe area where we can find an apartment for around 850-900/month. Appreciate the advice!!!!

Between those two locations really puts you not in the best neighborhoods- Seminole Heights, Robles Park, Ybor... Dont get me wrong, there are decent areas in all of those neighborhoods...but theyre hit and miss. Its also only about 6 miles or so between your two locations depending upon where at in downtown youre going. I would suggest going more North or South then one of your locations or even West to Rocky Point.

Some acquaintances have mentioned looking at Brandon, Town & Country or South Tampa? Would we have about a 30 minute commute or are we looking at far worse? We are planning a trip down in the next month to check out areas but would appreciate advice from experts. Thank you Kdubose!

I personally wouldnt live in Town n Country unless you speak Spanish...I lived there for a year 2 years ago and felt wayyyy out of place.
South Tampa is ideally one of the best places you can live in Tampa.. it would be about a 10 min commute for you and probably about 20 mins or so for your hubby to get to Erwin from there.
Brandon is going to be a much farther commute, there is lots of traffic coming in I4 and 275 in the morning and going home in the evening. Im not too familiar with Brandon, but I do have a friend that commutes from there to Westshore and hates it! Thats another area you might want to check out...the Westshore area.
When you come to visit, make sure you venture out on a weekday at the time that you would be going to work/school and coming home from work/school... it will give you a great idea of the traffic patterns.

Hopefully somebody else will put in their 2 cents for you

Good Luck!!

Default Looking forward to a visit

Thank you so much! I have heard great things about South Tampa so that sounds very promising! We will definitely take your advice about venturing out during rush hour to see what we'll be up against. Can't wait to come down. Thank you so much!

I agree check out S. Tampa. There are apts in that area which will fit your price range. The drive to Erwin is probably going to be a little longer than 30 minutes during rush hour

Check out the area and then check back and ask more questions.

There's nothing wrong with Brandon, the commute would be a little grueling though...There's lots of traffic in the mornings, lunch time, and 5 o'clock rush hour...

Keeper and Mquintana - Thanks for the opinions. Brandon looks really nice but as I already commute 45 miles one way to work now, I'm really excited to find a place reasonably close to my new job. I definitely will check out S. Tampa. I saw some nice apartments online and we're hoping to come down soon to check out the area in depth. Thanks CD folks!

I am also relocating to Florida. I was looking towards Largo as I know someone there, and I am an AKC Chihuahua Exhibitor and I know Largo allows dog kennel licenses. I wanted to check out nearby areas as well, as I would love to live in a more rural than city setting. Is Brandon that kind of an area?
