Do you think she might be mentally ill, though? This just occurred to me last night. Maybe she truly isn't capable of controlling her own life or even understanding when people are going above and beyond to help her?

she appears to have some borderline mental health problems - needs to have Hillsborough Social Workers/Child Protective Services keeping a very close eye on her or one day we're going to hear some very bad news about this family, unfortunately.

And that would be very sad for the kids who are not at fault.

Absolutely. And I agree that child protective services needs to be involved and stay involved.

I'm just wondering if maybe my initial reaction was too judgmental.

12-15 children without the ability to support them financially? I don't think you're too judgmental.

My point entirely! And Yes, it is SUCH a sad situation for the kids here. Just think where do they get any choice in what's going on? They don't. How productive of citizens could they become living like this? It is SO sad. I get so frustrated that she is using them IMO to loaf thru life at their expense.

Too bad mandatory sterilization is not an option here.

Democrat here - so no offense - but can you imagine the medical coverage that will also be given to families like this one and millions of others with the new Health Care Reform law aka "Obamacare"?

they are on health care already--odds are they are on Medicaid if they are getting assisted living through Hillsboro County/Tampa Housing Assoc...and are on Food Stamps and if there is an AFDC program still alive they are on that...

she needs to be monitored closely--there is no way she can take care of those children with her resources--prove she is unfit mother (loving does not really enter into that equation) and have them taken into foster/state care...then she won't qualify for such large benefits...put her in work program...
