We are planning to move to the Clearwater area, possibly Dunedin or Palm Harbor and are interested in opinions on good choices in condo communities. Good management, proximity to beaches and biking, reasonably low HOA fees, and pet friendly policies are important.

We would love to be close to the Pinellas Trail.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Rental or to buy? Price Range? What amenities do you want?

We want to buy, and hope to spend under $100,000. We would like a pool, and a fitness center would be good. The closer to Dunedin the better.

In Dunedin
I don't know if any of these allow pets
Patrician Oaks, Douglas Arms, Heather Lakes
Pinehurst Ridge-allows cat only, no dogs.
I have no idea what hoa fee is for any of these.

Palm Harbor-Pine Ridge-unknown pet policy, hoa fee?
Highland Lakes-2 of the many villa complexes allow pets-hoa is a very reasonable $90mo. considering all the amenities-pools, golf courses, activities, classes, library, lake tarpon lodge, rv and boat storage.
You may have to go over the $100K limit to get one of these-I see one listed for $89k and 2 listed for 119, and 124.
I highly recommend highland lakes from personal experience.

You shouldn't have many issues finding that... check our realtor.com and craigslist. It's quite frustrating searching for apartments when you're 27 and all you can find are 55+ communities.

Just following up on this thread, since we're looking for something similar. Did you find any pet-friendly condos close to Dunedin? We want to be as close to downtown as possible, we've already excluded anything east of hwy 19; however nice they are, they are just too isolated for us.

Windward Pointe is very inexpensive right now -- cats OK, but no dogs.

50teeslady, we're looking walking distance to downtown Dunedin, which is a charming little "village", with restaurants, pubs, shops. Kind of kitchy and touristy but homey. If you can manage a place without pets, we are looking at Patrician Oaks, Douglas Arms, Heather Hills and Heather Lake condos, and a couple of others. All are 55+. I've seen 2x2 places in your price range, but if you're looking for just a 1 bedroom, you should not have a problem.

The problem is finding pet-friendly. For that you pretty well have to go further away from town, but I'm talking a 15 minute drive. Scotsdale Villa allows cats and San Christopher Villas allows small pets.

There seem to be lots of subdivisions that allow pets further away--we saw some very nice ones on the other side of highway 19, in the "Countryside" neighbourhood (named for a mall--very nice area, just not walkable enough for us.)

Disclaimer: we've just visited once, and fell in love with the place, looked at lots of condos and decided what our parameters were. We go back in just over 3 weeks to do a serious hunt. I'll report back after that if you like.
