This past week there was talk about evacuation because of the oil spill... Have they made any other announcements about this? We are coming down to the Tampa bay area on Monday and just wondering what this will mean for my stay, which is right on the gulf

I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think this area is in any immediate danger from the oil.
I have not heard any concerns for this area as of now.
You can maybe look at
www.baynews9.com . They are the local, up-to-date news. Anything new will be posted on this website. Chanel 9 rotates the news every 20 minutes or so, 24 hours a day.

I really don't think they plan to do a mass evacuation, even if the air and water here get to toxic levels. Unless they've found another stash of nice mold laden FEMA trailers they need to make use of.
