I was thinking of signing my car title over to my mom so that if the condo association asks about, she can say it's her car and I just use it. The thing is, I'd like to keep it registered and insured in my name. Does the DMV allow this? When people make car payments, the bank always holds on the title. And if I did this, would she legally then be the owner of the car?

Well the first question is their a lien holder? If there is there is not much you can do as far as adding her to the title without permission to the lien holder.
If not you can add her to it and just register/insure it in both your names. Yes the DMV does allow this, you will have to have a primary on the registration/title though.
Just did this with my son's car , in case something were to happen to him, god forbid, I would not have to deal with probate court.

I was thinking that my mom could show the condo association the title that was signed over to her, but it probably wouldn't do much good anyway. The first thing they would do is inquire on the license plate. I actually see these old people here writing down license plate numbers of unfamiliar cars.

All this just to scre...over the HOA and the rest of the community to get your self an additional guest parking lot? Tell me if there is another reason, but I think I'm right on target....
