It's not a bad gig selling insurance for a quality company/companies. However, get used to working evenings and weekends. It's much like working in the real estate market. You work when your clients have free time.
Insurance sales may not be that bad. You have to be licensed. Every insurance agent I have ever had makes more money than me.
*shrug*
The thing is, for every insurance agent you meet that is successful and raking in the dough, there are 19* others that got their license, received on-the-job training, and spent a few months, maybe a year or two in the profession, and couldn't cut it. Insurance sales requires a very specific type of personality, one that in my opinion is completely the opposite of the type of personality I feel that your average teacher has.
*I made this number up, but from what I know first-hand in talking with people in the field, most don't make it.

I worked for a while in very high level insurance administration. Still we all had to be licensed. One day we took a test that measured tour interest. Personality and job aptitude, it was dead on. The folks that came from sales were very tightly grouped (we only had highly successful people). I am a very successful teacher now, but I was as far from the salesmen as possible.
Another time we were meeting with the number one insurance guy in Charlotte. About 15 minutes into the conversation, the guy looked at me and said, "I don't known what you do, but I know it is not sales. You are too smart and you think different."
Sales in any field is very tough to crack, and you do have to have a certainly personality type. If you're reserved like I am, you are not going to succeed.
