I have been asked to submit ideas for a new high school building. There will be a huge focus on technology and we have been asked to think in terms of still useful in 2035.
Frankly, I'm not sure if there will be actual brick and mortar high schools in 2035, but I would like to hear some thoughts from other teachers.
What would you want in a new high school building?
When our district was designing our new elementary schools they asked "the experts" in each area. The senior elementary art teachers consulted on the art room, music teachers on the music room, special education teachers on special education classrooms, etc. These teachers actually met with architects and gave their 'wish lists" and their priority features. We ended up with a very well designed, very practical building.
They did something similar when they built our new high school. Everyone seems very happy with it.
I see less large classrooms, and more smaller group settings, for peers to work in smaller groups on projects. More focus on vocational learning, like learning computer graphic design and web design in high school.

This is very much like what we are doing. We are meeting with architects and working with planners. I just want ideas and input.
And a more practical suggestion: flexibility. Facilities that are not so specialized that they will become obsolete in ten years. Nothing trendy.
