Is PBIS behavior program at your school? If so, what do you think of it? At the middle school I work at, students are given a warning, then told to write the rule they broke 5 times and have their parents sign it. They have to have 3 write ups before they can be disciplined (detention usually.) it troubles me because I see kids getting a way with a lot more than they should because admin penalizes teachers who refer kids to the office for discipline. For example there was a kid who made a weapon out of a pen and rubber band (kid has no IEP or behavior plan) and all he did was get a write up.

PBIS is a program that allows Administrators to "pretend" to take corrective action when students misbehave. It is a response to claims from Washington D.C. that the reason children of color graduate at a lower rate is because they are suspended so often. Meanwhile, the inmates are truly running the asylums.
No doubt PBIS will be replaced by "the next big thing" in a year or two. In 35 years of classroom teaching, I'm sure I've seen at least 35 new programs that were going to save Education. All of them failed because our leaders in Washington keep "kicking the proverbial can down the road" to avoid facing difficult decisions.
Eventually, Education will reach a crisis stage where a new system will have to be developed. The outrageous insubordination in the schools and public disrespect for teachers is already causing an acute teacher shortage nationwide.

Change MUST come. The only question is when...
