I am a new(er) teacher, and ever since I have begun teaching, kids everywhere just seem to know, and are more communicative/friendly/aware with me in public. Does this just come with the territory?

I don't know if its really a sixth sense..

But I will say that it has been my experience that teachers often have a more...'engaging' personality or presence about them.
Im not sure what I'm trying to say...just something about teachers that you can spot them a mile away. Not all, of course, but a lot.

Kids are generally fairly intuitive, and pretty good at spotting people who are "kid" people (as most good teachers are).

I noticed this soon after I started teaching. In my case, something about ME was different that kids can pick up on. Maybe it was something in my posture or from using my "teacher voice".

You're not wearing holiday sweaters, shirts with appliques of school supplies or practical shoes, are you?

No, no tell-tale clothing, which is why I find it intriguing... but maybe it IS an odor, like the kind that animals give off when they are frightened (makes me think of "The Simpsons" episode where Lisa scientifically proves that bullies respond to "nerd" odors *LOL*)

Haha...a teacher that watches (or watched) the Simpsons?!?!

Next thing I know you're going to be trying to convince me that teachers are human!
