Linux/Knoppix (CD, operating system, bios, Unix)

Hi all:

I just wanted to say that I am really excited about using Knoppix. I have always wanted to have dual operating systems(Vista/UNIX) but I have always had problems installing Unix. Found out about Knoppix on a forum, downloaded the monster ISO file (700 MB), burned it to a CD. Anyways, accessed the Vista boot menu (the Vista BIOS menu is much better than XP's IMO), selected boot from CD, and the rest was history! Knoppix comes with a bunch of free programs and I could see myself never using Vista again Definitely recommend Knoppix for those who want to taste Linux without having to partition your HD. The only drawback is that it boots from the live CD but I do not really see that as a drawback. So far it has run flawlessly.

Just FYI -- there are literally DOZENS of Linux "LiveCD" distributions out there, and some of them are quite user-friendly.

Ones I would personally recommend are:

Puppy Linux (small, light, not too technical, fits on a 210MB mini-CD)

Ubuntu (very popular, lots of software)

PCLinuxOS (polished, fairly complete)

SLAX (broken link) (small, easy to use, fits on smaller CD like Puppy)
