What a waste of $50 mill dollars.

They should be using that money to grow businesses, put food on peoples tables, maybe extend unemployment, help people who were displaced due to the flood.

Or given back to the people who actually earned it!

Internet access is vital for education and job opportunities and business expansion.

A better question is why is The Small Business Bill being blocked?

Bingo.

Extra money in the pockets of those that did earn it should be the main concern of our so-called leaders in DC, not Federal handouts to corporations and other special interest groups.

That way we can decide locally to what degree we want to provide broadband to to our friends and neighbors.

I do just fine with dial up - if i need broadband i'll go somewhere with wifi. I don't think I'd need it for job applications and the like. This may be a ruse to line someone's pockets.

BTW, I've rarely had service problems with dial up. Nothing that I've ever needed to fix, maybe wait an hour or so for the ISP to fix their server, maybe twice in 15 years. One reason i never switched is i hear about frequent service headaches with broadband.

To apply for jobs, you would rarely need broadband. Maybe if they forced you to watch a video or something, before you applied.

A lot of small business relies on high-speed. Not all, though.

I've done tech support for dial-up on up to broadband and there are actually less problems with cable high-speed. DSL can sometimes be hinky, but not horrible. Dial-up was usually the worst.

I'd like to know why someone looking for a job on the internet as opposed to going business to business or looking in the paper should be my problem? That stimulus money is my tax dollars. I did my job search by the newspaper and found a job just fine.

What else is a God given right in this country? First cell phones and now internet access?

You'd be surprised how many companies require you to fill out an application online. But it will be a big boost to educational opportunities in those very rural areas, too, not to mention it is vital for public safety and homeland security, community development, health care delivery, worker training, private sector investment, job creation, and economic growth. And ultimately, the US is only as strong as its weakest areas.

I don't know about other professions, but I have been self-employed since I was 18, and the good jobs are rarely posted online.
