This was the only other thread I could find on the subject:
//www.city-data.com/forum/memph...n-renewal.html

My county office told me the state is not sending registration renewal notices anymore. Did I miss the memo?? Anyone know why? Isn't this going to screw over a ton of people who rely on the notice to pay it? I mean, we nearly forgot.

I just got a tag renewal mailing from DMV yesterday...sounds like NJDevil either misunderstood or his county people don't know what they are talking about.

Does anyone know who I can call at the state level to ask? We definitely did not get our renewals, so they obviously are not sending them out to everyone. It doesn't make any sense, but I'd like to know if we'll get one next year. Should I just google TN motor vehicle services to get a Nashville number?

I work with a guy who didn't get his either. When he finally did realize it, he went to the DMV and they told him the same thing. Something to the effect that they are not responsible to remind you.. it's your job to renew it. We got ours this year.. wait and see what happens next Feb.

I got mine this summer as well. It seems strange that they would discontinue the notices since it probably gets most people to remember and pay on time. The Tennessee government website page on tags still says they will send you notification and doesn't say anything about discontinuing or only sending notices to some. Hopefully you can find out why yours wasn't sent. people.Vehicle Title & Registration Frequently Asked Questions (http://www.state.tn.us/revenue/faqs/trfaqs.htm#12 - broken link) (number 12 has the pertinent info).

If you scroll up to questions 1 & 2 you'll find mail and toll free phone information.

Thanks SOOOOOOO much! There was a computer glitch for us - they are still sending them out - apparently the county woman had the wrong info.

I got mine too, but that was my thought. Why should the state pay for the notices and the postage to remind you to do what you should be doing. They're not mommy. You're an adult (not speaking specifically of the OP but of adults in the state in general) so you need to take care of it yourself. I hate the state spending money on things like that. It's not their responsibility to make sure we renew our plates.

That said, it would be easier if they'd have renewal dates of the registered owner's birthday. That's how Florida did it and it made life easy. Your birthday rolls around, you get older, birthday cake and hit with a monster renewal bill. Congratulations for lasting another year on this side of the dirt. At least renewal here doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
