I truly can't figure out exactly where Haslam stands enough to comment. I have heard his remarks but I feel that he sways to the group he is standing beside at the time.

I was on a jury last year in Federal Court in downtown Knoxville for a case that was a convicted felon in the possession of a firearm. Wow, it was eye opening! As a person that has a carry permit I never thought I would get chosen to be on the jury. The feds are very, very serious about prosecuting these cases. I was amazed at how a nothing incident turned into that trial. And, the minimum sentence is 10 years in the federal pen for a conviction and there is ZERO time off. The entire 10 years MUST be served!

I think we must hear more from Haslam to be able to stay on topic and continue the thread!

I would think the permit from the state is the better way to go part of my thinking is; currently if you have your TN carry permit you are also legal in many other states which have concealed permit carry. I'm thinking if you are from a state which allows concealed carry without a permit you most likely would not be able to carry concealed once you leave your home state.

There are only two states that allow unrestricted carry without a license or permit: Alaska and Arizona. I'm not sure about Alaska but I know that Arizona offers permits to those eligible so that these people will be able to carry in other states. I wish TN was the same way.

Edit: New Hampshire is also an unrestricted carry state. Don't know how I forgot that one.

An armed society is a polite society. End of discussion.

Would it be a difficult transition period because we have neutered the last few generations and because of the rabid media monster that will report every single negative impact while ignoring the good? Sure. However, the pay off would be immense.

Not many people want to die for the $45 they might get out of the McDonald's cash register. If that would be thief knew the chances were high that 50% or more of those people standing in line might be carrying a firearm, I promise, they would give pause.

It might take burying a few of their buddies at first, but I promise, they would figure it out.
