It's our first Christmas in TN and from what I've been told, it's the first white Christmas in southeast TN since 1976. Can anyone verify?

I don't know about Southeast TN, but in Middle TN I recall at least one white Christmas in the 80s or 90s, though I couldn't tell you what year. So it wouldn't surprise me if SE TN hasn't seen one since 76.

Edit: I was thinking Southwest TN. Usually East TN gets more snow than us, so I would think there would have been a white Christmas or two more recently than 76, but I certainly could be wrong.

My daughter's mother in law said the first in 17 years in this area - Van Buren County - so I'd guess you're about right. Wow. It's about time!!

Statistically, the odds are not high through most of the country for a white Christmas. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Christmas

Yeah, I have a friend who lives just north of Chicago, and she says that even there they rarely have snow on Christmas, even though they get plenty of snow throughout winter.

Thanks! According to my family I am not right about many things; it's nice to be right about something.

Our local radio (Lincoln County) has been saying this is the first time in 25 years that snow has fallen locally on Christmas, and the first time in 20 years that there was snow on the ground locally on Christmas.
