I have been researching Eastern TN like crazy. My family; me, husband, and two boys have visited Eastern TN every chance we get. We love the area, and are now in a position to possibly move up there. It is something we have wanted to do for a while, and we made a deal that if we were to move we would do it before the boys began high school. Well that is two years away and time is ticking. We are currently living in Florida. I have been here my whole life, and it is a great place to raise a family. My family is just wanting more. We aren't really beach people, but we love the outdoors. My husband is a firefighter and currently in school for Paramedic. I know that transferring his certificates will take some work, but it can be done. I am looking for any input from the residents of TN. What areas are the best to raise our boys, we want something near the mountains, a community college (so I can complete my RN), and a great fire department. The fire department is one of the most important criteria, but a great place for raising the kids is #1. Please, any advice is welcomed!

Probably you will fare better in an larger metro area, as opposed to a small town. Schools and municipal services, like the fire department, will be better. Our cities are more like large towns. They don't seem very "citified." Well, Knoxville doesn't and it has really good schools. I'd look into the city limits of Knoxville.

My guess would be Knoxville. That would be better for the boys because there would be more activities for them. At that age they need to stay busy. I agree with hiknapster all the way.
Where do you live in FL? If you don't mind me asking.

Small world, I live in Orlando but lived the first 10 yrs of my life in Riviera Beach, West Palm. My mom was a sailing instructor in Palm Beach, good times!

I know what you mean about wanting to move before your boys start HS. My daughter will be a freshman when we move up in 18 months, that is the goal, move after my 2 boys graduate and before my daughter starts HS.

We moved to TN the end of Oct. from Palm Beach County. We love it in TN. So different from PBC . Ocala might be a nice place to raise a family but PBC isn't what it used to be. We have lived there all our lives and we said it was time to go... Like you were ready for a change and we are raising our granddaughter (7 yrs old) and didn't want her to grow up there. There are a lot of gangs and the cost of living is high.

Good luck hope you find what you are looking for.
