We really had some cool, dry air for most of the summer. Of course, we also had no rain, so it stands to reason. I guess everything is a trade-off. Anyway, just like clockwork, the heat and humidity arrived about a week ago, or so.

Right now, we have a heat index of 100 degrees.

So my question is...

Where the heck is happyyappy? Has he keeled over?

Just so you know, I checked the Monterey weather on the National Weather Service, and he only has a heat index of 90 degrees. Still, he's from one of those northwestern states. He might be a little droopy.

Where are you happyyappy?

This isn't humid! I lived in Washington, D.C. for many years and never had central AC in an apartment/house. You couldn't dry off after a shower from April through October. It was typically 80-90% humidity.
I've lived in South Georgia where it was just as humid and even hotter. There I had central AC but you'd still be dripping if you just went outside and stood there for a minute.
Knoxville is nothing compared to those. I was just outside and the weather like this would have been a welcome cool down in Georgia or D.C.

Umm.

I lived in southwest Florida for nine years. It is hotter there than D.C and Georgia. A lot hotter. I know about heat and humidity.

This has been a running joke on here. Happyyappy is from the northwest and he joked a lot about having to brave the heat. I haven't seen him on here in awhile.

I didn't start this thread to debate how hot Tennessee is.

It is a joke.

Default What heat? What humidity? What's a "heat index"?

Hiknapster,

I haven’t been posting much because I’m conserving my energy. My wife’s list of slightly-less-than-impossible tasks doesn’t have a column in which I can write priorities based on the heat index—although I have suggested it a few times. Saturday and Sunday I was asked (yeah) if I could perform certain construction projects INSIDE the chicken house (condo!). Ya wanna know about heat index?—I can show ya heat index!

Now HERE’S the difference from heat in Western Washington and Monterey Middle Tennessee: In WW working on the OUTSIDE of the chicken’s domicile in the heat made me wish I could be INSIDE; here I can’t wait to get OUT of the INSIDE!

If she has many more inside projects on that fowl mansion, I’m getting a window air-conditioning unit.

Fortunately, I’m not asked (summoned) for duty away from the air-conditioning during the week, so Wednesday and Thursday this week, predicted to be quite warm, I’ll once again be scoffing at the lame threat of the heat index.

HAPPYYAPPY!

Thank goodness you checked in. I was beginning to wonder if you were okay!

Last I heard, LauraC was pretty hot, too! We have plans for Saturday, so hopefully it will be cooler, and my power won't blow out!

Stay out of the chicken coop!

Default I'm Melllllllting!

So, yesterday evening at approximately 5:15PM, the thermometer said it was 98 degrees here. Who knows what it was at 3:00PM? Why? Because I was 3,300 feet closer to the sun between 2:00PM and 4:00PM yesterday! Me, the heat wuss who overheats at 80 degrees just melting away on a mountain top.

Here are some pics of the wind turbines on top of Buffalo Mountain. Buffalo Mountain is located somewhere near Oliver Spings and Oak Ridge. I did not drive up there...and you shouldn't, either, if you love your brakes but don't like to smell them as you descend.

Weather.com is now predicting 100 degrees on Thursday for Monterey. We have to go to Cookeville that afternoon, no getting out of it. I won't be listening to music in any parking lots.

Yes, I will definitely refrain from entering L' Hotel de Poulet.

I hope your Saturday with LauraC goes well, with cool breezes and enjoyable conversation!

Yesterday, at 5:40 p.m., going by the bank in Powell, it said 100 degrees!

LauraC, do you still want to go? I think it's going to be even hotter on Saturday.
