Does anyone know of any areas 2000 feet and up in the mountains, good to raise kids (ages 4 - 14) We do not care about places or malls to go, but want our kids to make good friends, do not need work (my husband has ms and like to garden, I do web design) but do need to be 1 - 1/2 hr to a city our exes can find work, they are moving here also when their house sells here. We are spiritual but not necessarily religious though my husband and I would go visit any church for our kids to socialize.

If we have to we are willing to live away from the mountains somewhere with good schools and kids to play with and retire to the mountains when they are older. But elevation is good for my husband as it is cooler and the heat makes him ill. We were originally going to look near Lake George upstate NY but his ex said she could go here and now I am in live with NC and TN Blue Ridge mountains!

Thanks for any help!!

Check out Mountain City in Northeast TN. Or Erwin. Both are in the mountains and close to Johnson City. Erwin is easier to get to (it's right on I-26). Mountain City is more remote, but it's incredibly beautiful and doesn't get very hot.

And Erwin has the honor of being the only town in history that gave the death penalty to an elephant!

Default Waynesville Maggie Valley area

I had a house in Maggie Valley. It is a beautiful town and mountainous. The town is close to Waynesville which has some lower elevations.
Our house was at too high of an elevation and made it difficult going into town during bad weather.
