I'll be moving within the state in a few weeks. We are planning to use a 22 foot moving truck. Am I required to go through the state's weigh stations on the interstate? I tried to find the regulations online, but I keep coming up empty. Any help will be appreciated!

Typically any vehicle over 26,000lbs has to. Those require a CDL to drive. If you don't need a CDL, you don't need a weigh station.

Your rental agreement will probably instruct you to pass thru all weigh stations. Mine did twice (U Haul and Penske). Went thru stations in Va and Tn without any problem.

Back in the late 70's I helped some people move in Fl. We bypassed a weigh station and were pulled over and made to go back. No real problem but it cost us a little bit of time.

When we moved here, we drove through them just in case, but were flagged around the scales and sent right back out to the interstate. This was years ago, though. Honestly, I'm not even sure the weigh stations are open these days. I travel out of state regularly by vehicle and the ones I see are always closed.

April 2012 - rental agreement and rental person emphatic on going thru weight stations, said it was a TSA requirement. At the weigh station (between Memphis and Jackson on I-40) we were "waved" thru.

Thanks everyone. We made the move with the 22' Penske truck. Bypassed all weigh stations in TN through I-40 and had no trouble whatsoever.

Not knowing that area. Is that a crossing over the Might Mississippi River could be the reason for Home Land Security stopping all trucks..
