Hello, I am looking for any helpful tips and honesty. My fiance recently got a job transfer to Bridgeport, AL and South Pittsburg, TN, Chattanoga, TN, New Hope, TN, Stevenson, AL, Trenton, GA & Long Island, Al are like the nearest cities. We are an African American family that do not want move to a town full of prejudice because we are living in a new age. I am a nurse and 16 classes away towards becoming a teacher for grades k-5. We have three boys ages 2,13, & 16. We are heavily involved in church. I do not want to up and move my family from Blakely, GA with risk of exposing my children to prejudice, crimes,or any gang related activity. We are just a normal family that enjoy the football and band and want to be as normal as we can no matter where we go. I want to support my fiance but I need any & all truthful help on any of the cities above that will accept us for whom we are and not the color of our skin. Can anyone please tell me which would be best for us.. Thanks so much & God Bless.

If you're coming from Alabama, I don't know why you'd be worried about racial prejudice in TN. Yes, it's there, more so in small towns, but if you come looking for it, you're more likely to find it. You'll find crime anywhere you go, and while there is quite a bit of crime in TN small towns, it's usually drugs, domestic, or small property crime. You aren't likely to run into significant random crime anywhere in TN. I have never noticed gang presence east of Knoxville, but I'm not as familiar with other parts of the state. Once again, if you're specifically looking to find something, there's a good chance you can find it, but it shouldn't just jump out at you anywhere in TN.

I believe she said she is coming from Georgia but as this map shows, by moving to Tennessee for instance, she may be moving away from hate groups.

I agree with the above posts. There is prejudice and crime in every city and town. Overall I have seen a significant decrease in racial prejudice here in TN. Although most areas, especiall smaller towns, are predominately white there is a surprising amount of diversity and inter-racial couples now.
