Hey, minimum wage I understand. But on the other end of it, why should there be a limit? Isn't our country built on incentives and motivation?

I think having a country that plays Robin Hood takes away the incentive for people to have some pride and work hard.

After all, if I can make the same money by sitting at home, why in the world would i go out and try to better myself?
Amen to that. I was wavering on Fred because of immigration but he's sealed the deal for me by actually having a plan.

Like when you hear people complain about big corporation executives making too much money. Hey, isn't that American? To work your way up to make a lot of money? And if you can't, you can't. That's American too.

Here, here ::applause:: ITA!! with everything you said.
Although the Enron's of the world where they have basically bankrupt the company puts a bad taste in alot of mouths, there should be no regulations or limits or any legislature on the matter.

I SOOO agree with that on so many levels it's not even funny. However, I got the impression that he was talking about CEO's of pharmaceutical and oil companies only, that I understand and sort of agree with. You can't be manufacturing something that is a necessity and then price gouge the product just so the CEO can make an extra million or 4 a year.

Technically though, the market should take care of that too, I would think.

I don't know how...maybe the stockholders wouldn't sit still for the CEO taking a huge profit and the product not selling due to people buying from the competition, kwim?

And, if it's something that there's no competition for, I dunno, maybe another company would come along and create some, seeing a niche to lower the prices?

I know it's not cut-and-dried but I just didn't like his position on the matter in general.

I could care less what a CEO makes. What bothers me is when companies move their production overseas. That I find unAmerican.

Yes, I would agree, but suppose that began many years ago; outside countries coming in to manufacture products, giving us jobs. i.e.; Toyota or Nissan and American auto manufacturers having engines made in South America to be brought back here for assembly. It's a double edge sword; a sticky wicket for sure.

A company I used to work for (int'l brokerage company) had their accounting centralized in Denver. I year after I left the whole kit and kaboodle was disbanded and all processing is done in India. It's not just the mfg jobs for certain. Call centers, credit and collections etc are all somewhere else.

Truly sad.

For years, my mother worked for an optical company. It was the backbone of my hometown. It was acquired by a rather large company that moved its production out of this country and it was shut down. That was 25 years ago, and the town has never recovered.
